Charles Sturt University

Snow Ball – Albury, New South Wales

Charles Sturt University Snow Ball – Albury, New South Wales

The Challenge

The University were intending to have a Snow Ball on campus – an outdoor space covered in snow allowing people to snow board, ski, roll around in and simply throw snow balls, as well as have the occasional snow shower.

The Solution

SnowCreate covered the dance floor in 100mm of snow and then provided enough snow in one corner for board riders to slide down and across the dance floor.  Other students simply threw snow balls and everyone and anything, some students liked being towed across the snow while other students danced in it.  Every hour there was a snow storm where the entire area was showered in snow.  Great space, great atmosphere, great people, fantastic party!

Endeavour Hills Child Care Centre – Endeavour Hills, Victoria

The Challenge

A small Child Care Centre were planning a month of Winter activities – it was too far to take the children up to one of the ski fields to check out the snow so they contact SnowCreate to see if they could replicate snow in their playground.

The Solution

SnowCreate were able to go to their site, make a makeshift sand pit like play area using existing materials, and blow a heap of snow into the area for the kids to pay in.  The friendly staff had fun assisting and managed to help make a wonderful snow covered space – the children then appeared, rugged up as if ready to go to the snow and they loved it!

Harbour Town

Kids Play Area

Harbour Town Kids Play Area

Problem

The client required a large outdoor snow play area, fenced around the perimeter with the occasional sprinkling of snow during the day.  Since the location was amongst a residential area (residents are housed above the shopping centre), the noise of the machine would disturb them every morning so making the snow on site was not an option.

Solution

Centre Management and SnowCreate made the snow off site, well away from the residential area and trucked it onto site.  The snow was then spread evenly within a fenced area, ready for the onslaught of excited, energised children.  Centre Management gained access to four large (fake) snow machines that blow tiny soap-like bubbles over the crowded area every hour.  A huge draw card to the Shopping Centre before, during and after school holidays.

Luna Park

Toboggan Run

Luna Park Toboggan Run

Problem

Luna Park is in the process of celebrating 100 years of operation: As part of the Winter School Holiday Program, Luna Park requested a Toboggan Ramp to be created in the heart of their park, a single lane run capable of having hundreds of children slide down it daily.

Solution

SnowCreate designed, supplied, installed and maintained a single lane Toboggan Ramp that was two metres (2.0m) high and over one metre (1.4m) wide and well over ten metres long (10.0m).  The ramp was a scaffold built to Australian Standards with the capacity of handling over three ton (3t) of snow over the distributed area.  SnowCreate supplied an insulated base to assist with minimising the snow melting as well as ten inflatable Toboggan Tubes.  With some custom lighting and cladding supplied by Luna Park, this free ride brought in thousands of children to enjoy the snow ride in the city as well as the other Park activities.

Ormond College (Melbourne University) – Melbourne, Victoria

The Challenge

The College were planning a Snow Ball as part of their Winter celebrations: they had checked out artificial snow but were not quite satisfied with the result/aesthetic.  They wanted something real.

The Solution

SnowCreate were able to cover the landscape surrounding the dance floor, meet and greet area and the paths leading up to the snow space.  We also managed to consolidate some of the snow in one area so that the more adventurous students could make snowmen, throw snow balls and have fun.  The evening ball was a huge success!

Stairway Church

Kids Play Area

Stairway Church Kids Play Area

The Challenge

Our client wanted to provide a large snow play area for kids or all ages to play in, yet provide plenty of space for their parents to watch and participate as well.  A special space were children who have not seen snow before can grasp, lift roll into balls and throw, build snowmen, castles, tunnels, etc

The Solution

SnowCreate enclosed a large area using water fillable barriers and then pumped well over ten cubic metres of snow into that space, making a large snowman in the middle and varying the depth of the snow so that the children have different areas to play.

Victoria University

Victoria University (Footscray Park) – Footscray, Victoria

The Challenge

The University approached SnowCreate to see if they could develop a snow related activity as part of their celebration of midyear Orientation Week (Re-O Week), in particular, a Toboggan Run.  Most of the Re-O Week activities were centred around the flat forecourt so it would be challenging to make a Toboggan Run within a tight budget.

The Solution

SnowCreate ventured to the site a couple of times before suggesting placing the Toboggan Run over a lightly landscaped hill near the centre of the action.  With the University’s Grounds and Maintenance’s blessing, SnowCreate made an exhilarating Toboggan Run into the landscape that captured the imagination of the students (and staff).  If was a fantastic success and enjoyed by all who participated – the inflated Toboggans were supplied by SnowCreate and we assisted with the supervision of the activity to ensure everyone had a safe and enjoyable time.

Victoria University

(Nicholson)

Victoria University (Nicholson) – Footscray, Victoria

The Challenge

Similarly to the Footscray Campus, the Victoria University (VU) approached SnowCreate to see if they could develop a snow related activity as part of their celebration of midyear Orientation Week (Re-O Week), in particular, a Toboggan Run.  VU had a particular area on site in mind but a site inspected revealed a more appropriate geographical site for a Toboggan Run.

The Solution

Although the site was a large incline, the brick wall at the base could provide the risk of injury if a Tobogganist was to really fly down the hill.  SnowCreate managed to introduce a bend into the Toboggan Run, like a mini snow Luge, so that the participants would slide to the safety of the grassed area.  Another fantastic Toboggan Run that was loved by the students of all nationalities – some of them had never seen snow before!

IMAX Theatre

Film Promotion

IMAX Theatre Film Promotion

Problem

IMAX Theatre approached SnowCreate to build a snow play area at the front of their cinema in Carlton, Victoria to help promote their upcoming film, Into the Artic, a film about Polar Bears in the Arctic Circle.  They wanted the children to be able to play safely in the snow before and after they saw the film.

Solution

SnowCreate designed, supplied, installed a six metre by six metre (6m x 6m) enclosed space with a snow depth of approximately three hundred millimetres (300mm).  This space provided the children with an opportunity to feel, play, throw and create numerous things in the snow.  SnowCreate also distributed additional (fake pine) trees to enhance the space, as well as a polar bear suited person to provide some entertainment/focus upon the film’s main characters.  The snow play area provided a backdrop for plenty of media coverage to assist in promoting the film.
